Financial Literacy

Over the past two years, NDC has pioneered a storytelling-based financial literacy initiative designed to educate TK–12 students and their families in LMI communities. By integrating engaging narratives with practical financial concepts, we've reached over 16,000 students, equipping them with essential knowledge on saving, budgeting, borrowing, and recognizing financial scams in underserved and hard-to-reach communities across California.

The program bridges the gap in financial education while promoting economic well-being and stability through fun storytelling and interactive learning for young individuals and their families. This content is provided in collaboration with esteemed figures, mainly the Former FDIC Chair and author Sheila Bair, who contributes by reading from her Money Tales book series in interactive sessions, as well as representatives from financial institutions, such as CRA Officers, local bankers, and local and federal government institutions (FCC, FTC, etc.). Our program also leverages resources from the FDIC's "How Money Smart Are You?" for Kids, Young Adults, and Adults, as well as GreenPath Financial Wellness, ensuring content is age-appropriate, engaging, and impactful.

In 2025, NDC expanded its reach. We've established partnerships with Title I school districts in underserved areas, including Compton, Crenshaw, Montebello, La Habra, La Mirada, Los Angeles County, National City, San Diego, Parlier, Fresno, Morongo Indian Country, Sanger, and throughout the Central Valley. In 2026, NDC will expand further to small towns in the Central Valley and Southern California, in addition to continuing our education sessions with our established district partners.
